Who knew…- Ballroom dancing can help you through your grief to feel human again

Who Knew?

People dance for various reasons my dance journey began during a very low period in my life. I lost my soulmate tragically and my life was turned upside down with grief. Friends encouraged me-to take a dance lesson and for the first time in over a year I started to feel human again. Alex seem to know that Dance was the answer to my sadness and dance soon became the bright spot of my life. I was laughing again and finding joy. It has been 11 years dancing with AlexWe have danced competitively in all four styles. We have danced numerous showcases with some of the best choreography and of course props.

The Dance community has embraced me and has become on a very important part of my life. It is a wonderful community in which I have developed great friendships, sharing in our love of Dance, never did. I think Dance would be my life.  My children still shake their heads because seeing me in Ballroom attire is a far cry from the mom who shot baskets in the driveway and coached their soccer teams but here I am competing on the dance floor with all its glitz and glam. It is also been through this journey that I have found a second passion designing and stoning ballroom dresses and helping new students maneuver this part of the sport

I currently enjoy my role at the studio as being the seasoned dancer, reminding new dancers “we all started with the box and it’s OK to make mistakes and be nervous”. I enjoy telling stories about my early dance experiences which are quite funny which ties back into the tagline of Lake Shore Dance Academy “Creating Memories To Last Forever”
