Let your child discover the wonderful world of Ballroom Dancing!
Dancing with a partner is a great way for children to develop important social skills that can lead to success both at school and throughout their lives. Dance steps, balance, musicality, posture, body language, etiquette, eye contact and poise are emphasized and taught from the first day. Each class focuses on Latin and Classic Ballroom dances. LSDA provides Group and Private dance classes for children six years and older. As with many sports, starting ballroom dancing at an early age leads to greater opportunity to take ballroom dancing to the next level.
Weekly group classes and/or private instruction are fun, productive and rewarding, allowing each child to individually build confidence while developing and growing in a safe, uplifting environment. When there is interest, they are an ideal stepping stone toward competitive dancing.
Benefits of Dance for Children
1. Dance builds self-esteem and confidence.
Through dance lessons, a child gains a better understanding of their body and how it moves, making them more comfortable about their bodies with improved levels of self- confidence. It can take courage and confidence to dance in front of others, and dance helps nurture both of these wonderful qualities. Dance also helps foster a positive attitude. With all this in mind, the instructors of Lake Shore Dance Academy are committed to an encouraging environment that turns each dance lesson into a positive, constructive experience.
2. Dance teaches discipline and teamwork.
Dancing is a skill that requires intense focus, discipline and coordination. Many parents find that dance lessons help improve behavioral issues, such as hyperactivity. Dancing tends to have a calming effect on children, and it helps them release pent-up energy. Classes designed for young children are not quite as demanding, but as your child progresses in dance, lessons will require more focus, dedication, teamwork and discipline, all of which can benefit other areas of their lives.
3. Dance improves social skills.
Dance lessons are a great place for kids to make new friends. With each class, children learn to improve their communication and social skills by interacting with other dancers in their class. They also learn how to work together as a team. In time, students learn how to cooperate and trust in one another. It’s not uncommon for children to forge lifelong friendships from dance. If your child is shy or fearful of performing in public, taking classes at LSDA can help alleviate these fears and help your child feel more confident.
4. Dance teaches proper etiquette.
Ballroom dance classes provide an excellent environment for children to learn the basics of etiquette. Our dance teachers explain etiquette and the need to be kind and courteous to each other. This may include instruction such as how to use a calm voice when talking, being gentle when dancing, and being considerate of the partner's concerns. Children learn that they need to be careful when on the dance floor, especially when crowded, because negligent behavior can cause injuries to their friends. Thus, while learning to dance, children also gain knowledge of manners and the proper way to deal with other people. This knowledge can help them later on, because they will already know the basics of appropriate social behavior.
5. Dance promotes creativity and self expression.
Participating in dance lessons promotes creativity and helps children develop an appreciation for the arts. Dance is a form of self-expression, and children who explore the world of dance at an early age will find a constructive outlet for their creativity and a positive way to express themselves.
6. Dance encourages an active lifestyle while improving coordination, balance, and stamina.
In today's technology-driven world, it is becoming increasingly important for children to adopt a physically active lifestyle early on. Dance is the perfect way to keep kids physically active in a fun way. When you bring your child to LSDA, they may improve their flexibility, range of motion, stamina and their strength. The movements in dance also help improve balance, coordination and posture. Dance focuses heavily on proper body alignment and learning how to move the body to create fluid motion. It's no wonder that dance is used to help train athletes in sports like football and basketball.
7. Most importantly... Dance is fun and exciting!
This is probably our most favorite benefit of all. Dancing is so much fun for kids. It allows them to be active in a fun and exciting way, as they explore different areas of dance and make new friends. And parents appreciate the secondary benefits of their children developing important social and emotional skills without even realizing it.
